LGBTQ Presentation Evening – Weds 14th August 2019
Young Healthwatch along with Groundwork East and the youth club they run for the LGBTQ community in Leighton Buzzard, hosted an informal presentation for the great piece of work they produced for schools within Central Bedfordshire.
The booklet is aimed for staff and teachers to give them an insight into those little things that can make a big difference to those who belong, or are heading towards, the LGBTQ+ community.
The evening was a great success and attended by a variety of people from all areas of business. The evening heard from Stephen Swain who is the Youth Group leader followed by James Newell who has recently taken on the role of CEO for Groundwork East.
After this, Amy Eymor from Young Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire spoke a bit about what they do and how the collaboration came about.
Two of the Youth Group members then took to the stage to talk about the piece of work that had been produced and elaborate on some of the points that had raised. Although both were nervous, they excelled and really came across as confident and passionate individuals.
The crowd then broke for refreshments, which was also used for networking opportunities and allowing the group to read the report that goes alongside with the booklet.
Everyone then regrouped, where discussion and questions were answered from those who had attended the evening.
Overall, it was a very successful evening with some very positive and complimentary feedback from the professionals and family members that attended. Lots of ideas for future work were identified and all we can say is, watch this space!
Congratulations on a very successful piece of work that showcases a great joint working project!
